Read Hamilton resident and Hamilton CLT supporter Simon Orpana’s excellent piece in The Hamilton Spectator about Heeding the Lessons of Brightside.

Brightside was a community of over 200 homes, as well as many businesses, which were razed in order to expand Stelco’s parking lots and build the Industrial Expressway overpass.

This history will be instructive for Hamiltonians as we grapple with LRT-induced gentrification and development in the coming years.

The HCLT is a non-profit corporation that owns land in the name of citizens and leases it back to social-purpose organizations and individuals in order to help meet needs that are prioritized by the community.
